Novelty, Worn Off: Bing Not Growing

Bing has been a pretty good competitor in the search engine race, and, as we’ve witnessed, it’s caused Google to get a little desperate (doodle every other day, new features rapidly being pushed out in beta status, anyone?). Since its release in June 2009, it’s been steadily growing, but this month slipped for the first time. Losing 1% this month, and apparently recording to have lost 5%.
Bing has already delivered a certainly beautiful search engine; which you can see below;
A picture which changes often, instead of Google’s. Hovering over squares in the picture reveals information and a corresponding search link.
Anyway, the statistics .According to Hitwise, Bing’s market share in the US dropped from 9.48% to 8.96% in the passing month, with a month-over-month percent change of –5% in the market share. If their merger goes ahead, Bing and Yahoo! together are worth 25% of the market – not a bad starting position to take on Google with.

I think this is just part of an ongoing trend – all wars have a saw-tooth style curve of activity. We may soon be using ‘Bing’ as a verb, although not quite as addictive as ‘just Google it’.
