Bing and Ping: Social Search Engine?

11:53 PM in No Category by Marc Lequime

The amusingly titled “Bing and Ping” feature, Microsoft announced today will be coming bingLogo_5F00_lgsoon. Similar to the system we have set up on TekCube; Bing and Ping will allow you to post  things to Social media networks, as-of-now Twitter and Facebook.

Bing is the new search engine from Microsoft, as I’m sure most of you are aware. The feature; to share your searches with friends; is set to only be enabled for instead so-called “Instant Searches” – such as flights or football/soccer scores. It’ll be opening as an invite-only Beta stage; where we can imagine it’ll work something like this; below:

Seems interesting; to be honest. But really, is this what Searching is going to be like soon? Quite frankly; it’d seem strange to send searches to friends – a lot of the time you search to find out stuff that’s important to you. I suppose it could be useful for sending friends links to information about gigs or other big events you’ll have planned. And what about Google? Could features like this eventually push Google out of the spotlight? We’ll just have to wait and see.

If you’re interested in becoming a Beta-tester for the new Bing; join their facebook group.
